Replays from Future Success Symposium 2022: Define Your Purpose

The Alumni Engagement team at Student Leadership Network and Office of Enrollment Management and Student Success at SUNY began the new year with the 3rd annual Future Success Symposium, a conference-style program focused on college success! Over the course of three nights, we explored what it means to define your purpose and discussed tools for self-exploration and discovery.

Mental Health & Growth Mindset

Our friend Meylin Andares, Director of DEI at Regeneron, kicked off the event as our the keynote speaker which was affirming, uplifting, and helped all of us remember our value. Her words were a perfect lead in to a panel discussion on mental health with Jessica Herd, Licensed Mental Health Counselor; Clinton DeMerritt, creator and host of the Conversations of Color podcast; and ASAP Academic Advisor at BMCC, Kalvin Wilson.

Building Your Community

We know that finding our people and community is an important part of our post-secondary (and human) experience but it can be hard to know how to find the right support or how to establish a meaningful mentor relationship. To help us uncover ideas for building community and our network of support, we were joined by Abigail Bryant, Director of EOP at Jefferson Community College; and Keith Nunez, EOP Counselor at SUNY Albany.

Do Majors Matter?

Starting college can be overwhelming and not knowing what you want to major in can only add to the stress. In this insightful session, our panelists Jayah Arnett, founder of My Projects Runway and Jordan Brand Global Operations Producer; Mikeila Bowen, Criminal Investigator with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF); and Camille Parchment, Law Clerk at Bracewell LLC, tackled the question “Do majors matter?” This was a really interesting discussion and provided tangible, creative ways that students can leverage their studies towards creating the future they want and deserve!
