Celebrating Our Graduates: A Future of Achievement and Promise

Happy graduation season! Student Leadership Network witnessed extraordinary moments of triumph and joy as the Class of 2025 in our partner schools crossed stages, diplomas in hand, and headed toward the next step in their journeys. These ceremonies celebrated far more than acceptance letters and college plans—they honored four years of profound personal growth, leadership development, and the persistence of young minds ready to change the world.

Our Graduating Class

Across 34 partner high schools in New York City, Buffalo, and Rochester, over 4,000 graduates took their next bold steps toward college, meaningful careers, and service to their communities. Each cap and gown represented countless hours of dedication, breakthrough moments in their high school journeys, and the unwavering support of our directors of college counseling and school educators who believed in their potential. At the graduation ceremonies, teachers and family members stood alongside graduates, receiving recognition for their essential roles in the seniors’ achievements. Our graduates this year include several scholarship winners whose accolades helped make their college dreams a reality.

The wisdom shared during these ceremonies captured the spirit of possibility ahead. Talia Scott, Student Leadership Network’s first-ever alumna elected to its Board of Directors, shared honest and deeply personal stories of imposter syndrome, growth, and commitment to give back. She just graduated from New York University with a JD/MBA, and she encouraged seniors of The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of the Bronx to continue to believe in themselves. “Hear me clearly: You don’t have to earn your worth. You are valuable before the awards, before the resumes, before the degrees. It took me a really long time to learn this myself. Back each other like my TYWLS sisters backed me. Every time one of us keeps going, through the many tears and all, we make room for the next sister to believe that she can too.”

Bernardo Ascona, Founding Principal of Union Square Academy for Health Sciences, applauded the students: “You protested injustice, you stood up for what’s right, and you still passed your classes and exams. That is your tenacity shining through. Life will test you, test your confidence and your courage. Never lose your tenacity and keep showing up even when progress isn’t obvious. That is what success will look like.”

Graduating senior Layla shared in her valedictorian speech, “I’d advise you to reflect on all of the stress you’ve endured, and feel proud of how you’ve endured throughout the tough times and excelled to where you are now, in your caps and gowns, ready to seal this chapter and ready to relish the fresh start ahead.”

Jayden from the Business Of Sports School challenged the class to be brave in their new surroundings: “If high school has taught us anything, it’s that life is unpredictable and growth doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in the middle of chaos, in the quiet moments, in the nights when you want to quit but don’t. So don’t chase perfection. Chase purpose.”

As we watch these graduates embark on their next chapters, we see not just individual success stories, but proof of what’s possible when barriers to educational equity are removed for all students. The future has never looked brighter. Congratulations, graduates!
