TYWLS Astoria students get front row seats at Oprah Winfrey’s exclusive interview with Michelle Obama

Earlier this fall, a group of students from TYWLS Astoria got the opportunity of a lifetime when they were given front row seats a private taping of Oprah Winfrey’s exclusive interview with Michelle Obama about her memoir, Becoming.

Throughout the interview, both Mrs. Obama and Ms. Winfrey spoke directly to them, often making eye contact and, after the interview, the two icons took the time to say a few words to each girl, offering hugs and advice only for them. One student shared that “it was a day I will always remember, even when I am 90.”

The interview aired on the OWN network on November 15th. Thank you to those who made it possible for our students to witness and be apart of this amazing experience.
