Students Discover a Range of Career Paths at BMO Capital Markets

What is the difference between personal banking and business banking at Bank of Montreal (BMO) Capital Markets? Students from The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of Astoria visited BMO’s New York City headquarters to find out. As part of our signature TYWLS at the Workplace early career awareness programming, students practiced networking with employees from the company, learned about their jobs, and heard about the college and career choices that led to their current roles.

Discover a Variety of Financial Services Roles

For many high school students, financial services might be envisioned as the local branch office of a neighborhood bank or conducting payments on a mobile banking app. At BMO, students learned more about the vast world of investments and business banking while gaining exposure to a variety of financial and non-financial roles needed for the firm’s day-to-day management. Volunteers from the wealth management, credit, and operations teams joined students for a panel discussion and then led a tour of the office.

Practice Networking Skills

In addition to learning about different roles and career paths, students had opportunities to practice networking skills. Small groups of students were paired with BMO employees for “Networking Bingo” to practice self-introductions in a professional setting. Students left the event inspired by the wide range of careers of the BMO team and with knowledge of different networking skills they can use in school and in their future careers.

We are grateful to BMO for supporting our work and our students’ career exploration!

About TYWLS at the Workplace

As part of our TYWLS at the Workplace series, companies invite our students to their offices to gain insights into different organizational roles and career paths. Onsite visits help broaden our students’ early career awareness and plant the seeds for future college and career goals. Thank you to our partners at BMO for their enthusiastic support of our programs!
