TYWLS at the Workplace: Apollo Global Management
Tenth-grade students from The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of Astoria spent International Women’s Day (March 8th) at Apollo Global Management, where they got an up-close look at the careers and work life of an amazing group of Girlboss volunteers.
TYWLS at the Workplace is a signature volunteer event coordinating a meaningful day of connection and networking for students at partner companies. Throughout the day, students met Apollo employees and learned about their career trajectories, jobs, and what it’s like to work there. One of those employees was Partner and Chief Client & Product Development Officer – and SL Network Board member! – Stephanie Drescher, who hoped to inspire TYWLS students with an interest in finance. She shared some words of wisdom with our students, saying, “There are times when your life or career are on tilt, but have confidence in yourself – you’re unstoppable!” Other volunteers emphasized the importance of connection, as you never know where your next mentor will come from. As the students and volunteers broke up into smaller groups to get to know each other better, the advice continued to flow. Tenth-grader Brianna even encouraged a volunteer to prioritize herself after hearing she has a young child and works really hard, a testament to the pillar of health and wellness that is inherent in a TYWLS education.
Students ended the day with a tour of the beautiful Apollo office space, learning along the way of the many departments and teams that work together to make the company successful. Many thanks to Apollo Global Management for being a partner and supporting our work in educational equity!
