2023 (Em)Power Breakfast Honoree: Cori Grainger
Kayla Conti, Head of Black Media at Google, honored Cori, a YWLN alumna, at the (Em)Power Breakfast for increasing STEM opportunities for underrepresented communities. At Google, Cori manages programs that diversify access to computer science and research mentorship, and supports students’ pursuit of graduate school and STEM research careers.

2023 (Em)Power Breakfast Honoree: Manny Salazar
David C. Banks, NYC Public Schools Chancellor, honored Manny at Student Leadership Network’s (Em)Power Breakfast and saluted him for being a role model for both students and the teaching profession. Manny, a CBI alumnus, is an AP teacher at LION Charter School in the Bronx.

Crystal McCrary Maguire, award-winning filmmaker, television producer, and New York Times Best-selling Author, honored Talia’s community impact at this year’s (Em)Power Breakfast. Talia, a TYWLS alumna, founded the nonprofit Legally BLK Fund while she was applying to law school.

What a thrill it was to host our 25th Anniversary Celebration (Em)Power Breakfast, marking 25 years of our work to equalize and improve education! This year’s program was filled with pure energy and inspiration. Deborah Roberts, ABC News Senior National Affairs Correspondent, served as Mistress of Ceremonies, and our distinguished presenters helped us honor three extraordinary alumnae who are leaders in their communities and industries nationwide.

25th Anniversary (Em)Power Breakfast: Telling our Stories
Lynn Nottage, playwright, screenwriter, and the first woman in history to win two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama, honored Kara Young, who made her Broadway debut in Lynn Nottage’s Clyde’s. Her portrayal earned her a Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play.

At our 25th Anniversary Celebration, Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., president emerita of Spelman College honored Jahleese Hadley, who has spent the last six years taking what she’s learned through her experience with Student Leadership Network and is helping transform college access for girls in Wilmington, North Carolina.
